There has been talk that Manchester United are interested in Tottenham loanee Timo Werner, but ex-Tottenham staffer Bryan King thinks the player isn’t talented enough to play for a prominent Premier League team.
In January, Werner was loaned to Ange Postecoglou’s team from RB Leipzig for six months with a £14.5 million option to make the move permanent.
The Sunday Mirror (17 March) reports that Spurs have until June 14 to exercise their option; beyond that date, they will have to renegotiate a new transfer deal.
In light of reports that Manchester United are interested in Werner, King has given his opinion on the German footballer.
He is not a player for Manchester United,” King told Tottenham News in an exclusive interview.
I just don’t see him playing a pivotal role for either Tottenham or United. In my opinion, he would be a poor fit for either team.
To put it bluntly, he bores me. He poses little danger until the ball is placed on a plate directly in front of the goal.To put it bluntly, he bores me. He poses little danger until the ball is placed on a plate directly in front of the goal.
So far, Werner’s experience in North London has been quite uneventful.
In recent weeks, he has been more prolific in finding the back of the net, and he has been absolutely electric at times. He showed his inconsistent temperament, however, by missing a glorious chance in Spurs’ 3-0 loss to Fulham (16 March) after coming off the bench.
The 27-year-old’s stay could become permanent with a payment of £14.5 million from Daniel Levy, who will surely use all the time he has.
The attacker will have a few more months to prove to Spurs that they cannot afford to part with him, which is great news for Werner.
