As they are set to support Ange Postecoglou in the next summer transfer window, Tottenham is already making preparations.
After a successful summer of 2023, Spurs were active again in January, signing players like Radu Dragusin, Lucas Bergvall, and Timo Werner.
Football Transfers claims that Tottenham might want West Ham defender Ben Johnson in an effort to bolster Postecoglou’s roster.
Ben Johnson of West Ham might be on Tottenham’s radar
Since Johnson’s contract negotiations with the Hammers have stalled, Spurs are reportedly waiting in the wings to pounce.
The 24-year-old is reportedly attractive to Ange Postecoglou, who is interested in signing him to cover Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie. He is flexible and can play on either side of the ball.
Although West Ham sent a contract offer to Johnson, who will see his current deal expire this summer, the two sides have not yet reached an agreement on fresh terms.
If negotiations between West Ham and Tottenham continue to stagnate, Tottenham is prepared to sign Johnson for free.
It would be great if Tottenham could bolster their roster this summer by snagging some free agents, but they will definitely need to do so.
When West Ham needed him, Ben Johnson delivered. Paul Robinson has previously praised the 24-year-old, calling him “absolutely brilliant.”
Another topic entirely is whether Johnson would have signed with Spurs knowing he would be second choice to Porro and Udogie.
On paper, however, Tottenham would be making a great move by acquiring Johnson. He would add depth and quality to their roster without costing them a fortune.
